Sky Ride Etape Hibernia

Etape Hibernia will see you cycling 82 miles of closed roads through Ireland’s beautiful County Clare, and will give you the opportunity to raise money for Sky Rainforest Rescue, a Sky and WWF project to help save one billion trees in the Amazon.

O'Brien's Tower, County Clare

By fundraising for Sky Rainforest Rescue, your money will go towards helping to save one billion trees in the Amazon and assist in protecting its wildlife as well as supporting the people who live there. You'll also be playing a part in tackling climate change, as deforestation is responsible for around 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

To apply for a guaranteed place in the event, which will enable you to enter the event for free, please download and return the application form.

All we ask is that you pledge to raise £200. We will be here to support you with:

Why is Sky Rainforest Rescue needed?
Every minute, an area of Amazon rainforest larger than the size of three football pitches is lost. Protecting the Amazon is vital to tackling climate change: without tropical rainforests the world’s climate would change and global warming could increase alarmingly.

WWF and Sky are working with the Acre state government and local communities in Brazil to help people earn a living from the forest without cutting down trees. This will help safeguard the Amazon and protect endangered species.

How will this work make a difference?
WWF and Sky, working with the Acre state government, will help local people cover the costs involved with protecting the forest and reward them for using it in a sustainable way. For example, people can extract rubber from trees and sell it without harming the trees. We’ll work with local people to get fair prices and find new markets for their sustainable forest products.

Without action like this, countless trees would be chopped down, making way for ranching and farming. Local communities would see little share of the profits, while the increased carbon emissions would have severe consequences around the world. It’s an unthinkable alternative.

How you can help
Sky Rainforest Rescue comes at a critical time. A main road is currently being paved through the region, which could cause deforestation rates to increase, as more parts of the forest are made accessible in the area. Action needs to be taken now to conserve the forest.

All money raised through Sky Rainforest Rescue will be donated to WWF-UK, charity registered in England and Wales number 1081247 and in Scotland number SC039593.

Sky will donate a further £1 to WWF-UK to match each £1 raised through Sky Rainforest Rescue, and has guaranteed to contribute a total of £2,000,000
