WWF and Tetra Pak have a long-standing partnership in many countries across the world. We are both committed to making sure that we all reduce our impact on climate change by promoting the use of responsibly managed renewable forest resources.

Tetra Pak cartons are made of around 73% wood fibre – a natural, renewable resource. Tetra Pak has ensured that over 1.5 billion of their cartons in the UK & Ireland can now carry the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label.

Tetra Pak is also a member of WWF’s Climate Savers Programme and has an overall goal of reducing its total carbon emissions by 10% by the end of 2010. Tetra Pak is also a member of the WWF Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN) in the UK, US and Sweden.

‘Your Renewable Idea’ competition

In April 2010 WWF-UK and Tetra Pak UK launched a three-year partnership with a search for new ideas aimed at harnessing the nation’s ‘green intentions’ and turning them into action.

Consumers’ ideas to change people’s habits and lifestyles are submitted online via www.renewableidea.co.uk for a public vote. Tetra Pak have set aside up to £25,000 to turn the winning idea into a reality with the support of WWF-UK.

Funds generated by the competition will support WWF’s important conservation projects, including a project based in the Russian Caucasus to help conserve the forest habitat of a number of rare species including the Persian leopard.

The Russian Caucasus forest ecosystems are precious because of their extremely important environmental role, as well as their richness in terms of biodiversity. The forests host a unique mixture of species, including the last remaining chestnut, wild pear, endemic oak and maple forests. Mountain forests play a critical role in preventing soil erosion and regulating water flow.
Forests are also home to many exotic species of woody plants and herbs, and are important habitat for rare and endangered birds and animals. Large predators such as the Persian leopard, wolf and brown bear depend on forest ecosystems, as well as red deer, roe deer, bezoar goat and wild boar.
